No more Student List?
I have spent quite a while trying to consolidate and improve the Blog-Roll and Students list on my separate page. All in vain. Whatever I tried, I can’t seem to get things right with this blasted PHP.
The various changes and compositions I make in my HTML editor (Kompozer) just look fine, but then when I try to transfer all that to my blog, it is all a mess again.
So I gave up and started to do some more useful stuff.
So I went “Oil-rig hopping” as Alex called it, and found out on Joe Trueman’s site that having such a massive list of links to all those students is a dangerous proposition, and may cause you to be banned from Google.
So now back to the drawing board.
Either I will put a “no-follow” with all these links, or remove the links out these listings altogether, and make them text only.
The first option will require me to do more research how to do this, and the latter will be a lot of bean-picking to get it all cleaned up.
So there is plenty to keep us busy.
I don’t think that at this rate I will be a contender for Alex’s $1000 prize for most traffic.

Hi Willem
Hope everything is going well over here
You may already know this but myself and Mark Call are in the process of setting up a website called Studentsofalex.com.
We are hoping to interview as many students as possible about Alex’s coaching, your progress, success and future plans.
It’s going to be a great opportunity to promote yourself, website and current/future products.
If you have already signed up, great!

Hi Willem,
It’s taking me for ever to get round everyone just to say hi, so I don’t want you to think I am being rude, but I’m turbo hopping to get round as many of the F500 that I can. If I wait for you to come to me, it might never happen. Thanks to all who have already visited Planet Valz, including you.
This means I have a standard message for everyone, and I’m leaving it as a comment to the latest post. I hope this does not offend you as communication and generosity is what is driving this.
Firstly, my wishes to you for a Happy, Healthy and very Prosperous Year 2009.
Secondly, I want to give you a New Year present, but you need to go to http://daybydaymarketing.com/2008/12/choose-your-new-year-present/
I would appreciate being added to your blogroll if I am not already on it. I am happy to add you to mine when you come over.

Hi Willem’
My first time here. I am planning to put a blogroll on my blog.
I think that all this talk about link farms and google slap is a bit over the top.
What I have been consistently told in the past by experienced marketers is.
If you have hundreds of links on your site that are not compatible to your business. e.g. If your sites about fishing and you are linked to sites about cooking and other topics, then obviously there is no benefit.
This is what is referred to as link farming. And that is what google can take action against. But if the linked sites are of similar content then there should be no problem.
Speak again soon, best wishes for the new year.

Hi Willem
I wanted to let you know that it is okay to not put every students name on your blog. Many students are doing this but you don’t have to. At the moment I am putting those students who visit my blog on a blogroll and is my way of saying thanks for leaving me a great comment… even if it is just to say “hi”.
I have a bit of html knowledge, mostly self taught and I know how frustrating it can be when something “should” work and doesn’t. My only suggestion, is if you still want to do it is to change in some way what you have been doing. What I mean is, I am terrible for doing the same wrong thing in coding 5 or 6 times before I eventually twig that it ain’t going to work. Then I do something different or leave it for a while and do something more productive. When I come back to it and try something new it often cracks the problem.
Hi Willem
I understand the frustration on the blog roll. I finally placed mine on a seperate page in my blog, placed a link to it on my home page and it’s worked out well on the SE’s thus far.
If you’d like, I have a few copy/paste options on my blog roll page that I made available for everyone to use. I update them often as names trickle in. One of the options is auto-updating list in an iframe set up. Please feel free to use them if you’d like.

Hi Willem,
I am glad to hear you have overcome the problems with your blog. As a non technical person I know how you feel as I am still trying to organise mine properly. The great thing is that there plenty of experienced students to learn from. wishing you success.

Rod

Hi Willem,
While the links on your blog roll may indeed be relevant, in my opinion there is such thing as having too many links on a page, especially stand-a-lone text links.
I would not worry about it too much - i don’t. In fact all i’ve done was create a Friends page on my site and add in a submission form where visitors can fill it out with their information if they wish to have their link added to my page. This keeps all the links added in one place only ( the links are not site wide as the default wordpress links are ).
This would be my suggestion if any.
Nice blog, it’s a nice theme! Fill up that advertisement spot
Cheers,
Colin

Hi Willem, this is my first visit as I am trying to get round all of Alex’s students blogs, time consuming, but important.
As far as the question of blodrolls of students goes, I am having to streamline a bit, there are so many of us it is nearly impossible to have everyone there. As one of your other commenters says, put people there who have visited your blog. I don’t think anyone is going to take umbrage just because they are not on lists. The main thing is the contact.
I would really appreciate it if you could visit my site and see my post concerning a poll about Alex. And to be cheeky, whilst you are there would you give a look to my competition video and let me have your opinion.
Thanks in anticipation.
Paull
I’ve heard that Alex Jeffreys is launching a new Coaching Program this week but it will be very expensive?
Why would you recommend Alex as a coach rather than other people like Michael Cheney, or Rich Schefren?
Been following Alex for a while now and enjoyed ‘The Gurus Dream’.
Have you made any money since you did Alex’s Coaching.
Will I get my money back if I sign up.
